You’re going to fail sometimes.

When it’s happening, it feels terrible. But there’s always something to learn on the other side of failure.

It’s been over a year since I updated my blog but this weekend I had some inspiration. Check it out at the link in my bio. It’s oddly personal but hopefully you get the point. Social media can be beautiful but it is very deceiving. Life is hard sometimes and it’s ok. Embrace the failures and take care of yourself. At least this is the advice I try to give myself ♥️

Recently I had a vet student ask me how I deal with burnout from being an ER veterinarian. This is it. Cases like Daisy make even the worst days worth it. I will forever cherish my time with her and apparently she had a real impact because we now have an old lady Brittany spaniel of our own ♥️♥️

It wasn’t easy… but it was definitely worth it.

Life lately is filled with a lot of dogs and a lot of love 🥰 31 was a weird year (if ya know ya know) but so many amazing things happened. I got engaged, added two more dogs to the fam, bought a house, bought a car (or two), went on so many trips (for work and fun), saved many animal lives, and met some incredible humans. 32 has a lot to live up to and I’m excited to see what the Universe has in store ♥️ Thanks for your support, always.

St. Kitts was a dream come true with my @veterinary_emergency_group family.

I am so lucky to have experienced the island and gotten to meet so many Rossies from so many different semesters. I am blown away by the resiliency of this group of future doctors. Thank you for accepting me and welcoming me to the island. Thank you to @huburns and @lindsey4423 for taking me and @monicaaa_h to all the places. And thanks for forgiving me when I cried because I couldn’t drive on the opposite side of the road at night 😂

Being able to host so many events at Ross was a true privilege. It was extremely special to present on opportunities at VEG with Hunter as he just finished the fellowship program at South Tampa with me 🥹 If you’re a Ross student and interested in ER, please reach out ♥️ you all impressed me so much and I can’t wait to see where you end up in the future.

As a doctor, I don’t tolerate abuse. Remember, emergency veterinary access is a privilege.

Emotional manipulation of veterinarians and/or veterinary support staff in unacceptable. We could have all been human doctors, pharmacists, dentists, you name it. But we chose the veterinary field because we love animals.

Treat your veterinary team kindly (especially the receptionists because they get treated so poorly). The reality is that there aren’t enough of us out there.

Literally, every vet’s worst nightmare 🫣

Prevent accidents from happening and crate train your puppy! Rhea is definitely a fashionista (as her foster mom would say 😂) and we have to keep a close eye on her 100% of the time. Hopefully, she will grow out of it, but for now I am keeping a close eye on my socks (and shoes 🤦🏼‍♀️).

So what should you do if your pet ate something they shouldn’t?

Call your vet right away! Oftentimes, we can induce vomiting and save you lots of $$$ in the long run. Plus, foreign body surgeries are not benign. Some dogs don’t handle the surgery well. Better be safe than sorry 🤷‍♀️

✌️Another honorary vet tech post because it’s National Veterinary Technician Week!!

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Veterinary technicians have been some of my greatest teachers. Without them, I wouldn’t be the doctor I am today…

Some specific examples (and shout outs 🤗) include:

1️⃣ @ashannemc at UGA (specialized in exotic animal medicine 🤯) who answered all my questions (often when doctors wouldn’t) and continues to check in with me today.
2️⃣ @alii316 who on my first day at VEG North Tampa taught me what a fluid rate was without judgement and always treated me like a doctor, even when I didn’t feel like one.
3️⃣ @kristarene who made sure everything ran smoothly during my fourth night shift in a row after Hurricane Ian and continues to impress me each shift I work with her.
4️⃣ @unevencake who keeps me calm during every surgery we have together and has gotten me through some tough situations when doubt plagued my thoughts.
5️⃣ @xrachtasticx who teaches me and collaborates with me every shift we work together on how to help our staff feel more comfortable with advanced medicine.
6️⃣ @vetnerdboy, Chris Major, Manny - our rock star shift leads at VEG South Tampa who constantly step up when we are in need and teach me about leadership and communication.

If I didn’t mention you, and you have played a significant role in my life as a vet tech, you probably know who you are. I could literally go on and on about the veterinary technicians in my life who have impacted me in a positive way. I seriously am beyond grateful for each and every one of you.

Know that you play a role in the development of doctors. You are SO important and I will forever fight for your success personally, professionally, financially, you name it. I will fight for it.

So HAPPY NATIONAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK! Love you all ♥️
